Artist Development
The Glitch is run and managed by VAULT Creative Arts - the former producers of VAULT Festivals. Which means we’re serious about supporting and encouraging artists as much as we can. We often have a wide range of development opportunities to help you grow your craft - read on to see what we’re offering at the moment!
VCA Playwriting Award
VAULT Creative Arts – the former producers of VAULT Festival – are delighted to announce the first ever VCA Playwriting Award. Submissions are now open, and, following the selection process, one writer will be chosen to receive a fee of £2,000, as well as a fully-produced realisation of their script at VCA’s current home, The Glitch in Waterloo!
We are looking for completed (or mostly completed) scripts of between 50 and 75 minutes in length, that have not received a full production, and can be performed with a maximum of three actors. We’re also particularly excited about scripts that tell a riveting, unique, and engaging story.
Applications are open until 23:59, Friday 4th April. To apply, please submit the first 10 pages of your script, along with a CV, and a story, theme, and character summary. We will shortlist 6 scripts, and at this stage will ask applicants to submit their full script.
You can learn more about the award by reading our information pack linked below. Or, if you’re ready, go ahead and apply now. We’re looking forward to receiving your submission!
SANDBOX Submissions Open
(for writers and actors)
There are lots of opportunities for writers to test out their work in scratch nights across the city. Often, these evenings connect writers with a director and actors, who have a few hours to rehearse their show, and then to perform it to an audience. This can be great, but we believe scratch companies can offer more – for both performers and writers. That’s why we’ve launched SANDBOX.
Over the course of three months, we will run weekly three-hour workshops with actors, exploring up to six scripts (with each script receiving two, 3-hour sessions). Through these sessions, actors will develop their skills in initial script response and working with new writing, while writers will get to experience working with actors, and will receive actionable feedback on their scripts. Each season will then culminate in a scratch sharing of the scripts.
For writers, we’re particularly excited to receive submissions of up to 20-pages in length from early-career writers. For actors, we’re open to receiving applications from performers at any stage in their careers, who are excited to develop their skills and experience in working with new writing. There is no fee for attending workshops, but performers should be able to commit to attending most workshops on Tuesday evenings through April, May, and June.
